Last week I began to tell a story about how my entire internal world entered complete chaos when I first initiated contact with my ancestors. Of course, I had no guidance, was doing it all on my own, and, basically, had no idea what I was doing.
You will be better prepared than me.
I’m here today to complete last week’s story and to give you what is perhaps the single most important step you can take to ensure your experience is smoother than mine.
I’ll get to that in a moment.
First, I’ve noticed a pattern over the past seven years.
In general when people initiate connect with their healthy ancestors, they have one (or more) of three experiences.
They connect with their healthy ancestors and feel:
- nothing;
- deep love and support;
- pain – anger, grief, fear, stuckness…
Last week I mentioned that when I connected in, I tapped into a vast well of fear and grief.
And then, after being immersed in grief and fear for ten days, I found myself suddenly able to feel and hear my ancestors. This was unexpected and amazing.
Then, something else amazing happened…
My dreams changed.
Up to that point in my life the majority of my dreams had been very dark and frightening: me in some creepy landscape, alone, surrounded by dark forces and untrustworthy people.
Not long after I began connecting with my ancestors, I awoke one morning with a realization. My dreams had changed!
Yes, there was still a lot of darkness, a lot of confusion and fear. Now, however, there were also people showing up who I innately knew I could trust. We would find creative ways to outwit the untrustworthy forces, to escape the scary places.
It was incredible.
Since then, I’ve continued to have allies show up for me in my dreams. I’m no longer alone.
I’d never even considered that my dreams could change.
I share this part of my story in particular because these dark dreams were so much a part of me that they seemed rooted in the very core of my being.
I share this with you also to illustrate that we don’t really know what is going to happen, what is going to change, when we enter into a conscious, healing relationship with our healthy ancestors.
Things that we think are at the very core of who we are, that we haven’t even considered asking for help for, have the potential to shift.
Everything can change.
This is cause for great hope!
More hope 🙂
I want to pause here to say that the turmoil I experienced initially is on the extreme end of things… my experience seems to be a bit atypical.
I jumped in without establishing any boundaries and without the guidance of someone already steeped in working with the ancestors.
As I’ve helped others connect with their healthy ancestors, I’ve found that the process tends to be much gentler for most people.
Most fall into one of the first two categories, experiencing a deep sense of love and comfort OR feeling nothing initially. (The ‘feeling nothing’ tends to shift pretty quickly as people learn how they sense things.)
However, if you do happen to be one who experiences intense grief, fear, or pain when you first (or at any point) connect in, know that it is ok. Know that this is normal.
And, reach out for help.
You don’t have to face it all alone.
And, there are simple steps you can take to make the process easier.
Be discerning.
Discernment is the number one step you can take to ensure your process is gentler.
Be discerning about who you invite into your space.
Consciously choose who you call to you.
While this applies to all aspects of life, when we are speaking about ancestors, it looks something like this:
“I call out to my healthy, loving, fully well ancestors. I ask to speak with and engage with only those of you who are deeply loving and well and who have my best and highest interest in mind. No others may enter this space.”
This is where it begins.
There are other steps to take as well.
However, being very clear within yourself regarding with whom you are choosing to interact goes a long way to ensuring your initial experience will be more supportive from the very beginning than mine.
Setting this boundary makes it much more likely that you will experience the love and support of your healthy ancestors from the very beginning.
From there, the real work begins. 🙂
